The filter, developed as part of the *Revival Project*, allows visitors to interact with statues, carvings, and other objects that have suffered damage, decay, or been impacted by human activity over time. Through scanning QR codes placed near specific artifacts, visitors can view 3D models of these objects in their original, vibrant states, offering a deeper connection to the ancient world.
El-Tayeb Abbas, Executive Director of NMEC, described the initiative as an exciting journey through history. “This technology adds an intriguing layer to the historical narrative, allowing visitors to interact with ancient artifacts in ways that were never possible before,” Abbas said. “By merging in-person exploration with digital reconstructions, we’re creating a dynamic, engaging experience that brings history to life.”

The Instagram filter is part of a larger initiative between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Meta, aiming to raise awareness about Egypt’s cultural heritage among younger audiences, particularly through social media platforms like Instagram. The *Revival Project* taps into the popularity of digital tools to attract a new generation of museumgoers, making Egyptian history both accessible and entertaining.
With over 19.4 million Instagram users in Egypt as of October 2024, the collaboration with Meta aims to reach a broader audience, including those who may not typically visit museums. By engaging users through social media, the museum is fostering a deeper connection with Egyptian heritage, encouraging both virtual and physical visits.

In addition to the *Revival Project*, NMEC has become a hub for technological advancements in heritage preservation. The museum, which opened in 2021, is the first in Egypt and the Arab world dedicated to showcasing the entire spectrum of Egyptian history, from prehistoric times to the modern era. One of its most notable exhibits is the royal mummies, displayed with advanced technology that allows visitors to explore hidden details and understand the ancient mummification process.
