Instagram now allows users to add up to 20 photos or videos in their feed carousels as the platform embraces the trend of “photo dumps.” In 2017, the platform introduced the feature to post up to 10 photos or videos in a single swipeable carousel post. Now, users can post twice the amount of content.
Sada el Balad Reported that the announcement on Thursday follows Instagram’s decision to make “Views” the primary metric for all content formats, including reels, live, photos, carousels, and stories. This change will allow creators to track the same metric across all their content.
The expanded limit was tested in March, so its launch wasn’t unexpected.
When Instagram first gained popularity, the focus was on sharing a single, perfect photo with followers. Over time, the trend of “photo dumps” became popular, with users posting multiple photos and videos in a carousel format instead of worrying about selecting just one image.
Instagram has now doubled the number of photos and videos that users can share in a carousel, making it easier for people to upload a collection of images at once.
This update is similar to when users post entire photo albums from their summer vacations on Facebook. It brings Instagram closer to TikTok’s carousel feature, which allows up to 35 photos in a single post.
Some users are excited about the Instagram update, while others think it’s too much as the app becomes more complex compared to its simpler version ten years ago.
Only some people want to swipe through more than ten post slides, especially when the app already has various content formats like reels, stories, and notes.
