Housing Min. Follows Up on Sacred Transfiguration Project in Sinai

In an effort to ensure the successful implementation of the “Sacred Transfiguration” project in Saint Catherine, Sinai, Eng. Sherif El-Sharbin, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, convened a meeting yesterday evening to review the current progress of the development project. The meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Housing, the Central Authority for Reconstruction, and the contracting companies involved in the project.

Meeting Agenda: Key Development Updates

The meeting focused on reviewing the status of key aspects of the project, including the construction of the “Peace Building” and the surrounding Peace Square, as well as the ongoing development of the Wadi El-Deir area. Additional discussions tackled the construction of the new “Extension” eco-lodge in the Wadi El-Raha area, and the development of the “Zaytouna” hotel resort.

Monitoring Progress and Addressing Challenges

During the meeting, the Minister also followed up on the progress of works and supplies related to the project. He directed the team to address any issues observed during the most recent visit to the “Zaytouna” hotel resort, specifically focusing on the completion of the green areas and regular monitoring of all ongoing works.

Visitor Center and Local Heritage Enhancements

The meeting also included an update on the construction of the new “Visitor Center” building and the ongoing development of the city’s heritage center, including the Sacred Valley Mosque and surrounding shops. The Ministry is also working on the expansion and enhancement of local markets with new shops. Regarding the Wadi El-Arbaeen area, the Minister emphasized the importance of increasing agricultural spaces and green areas to further beautify the area.

Wastewater Treatment and Infrastructure Projects

An important portion of the meeting also focused on the progress of the wastewater treatment plants in the heritage city and the Zaytouna resort. Additionally, the Minister was briefed on the development of the 9-kilometer stretch of road from the Nabi Saleh checkpoint to the Visitor Center, which will be 10 meters wide. The meeting also covered updates on electrical networks in the region.

Commitment to Sustainable and Comprehensive Development

The development of Saint Catherine’s sacred site is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to preserve the region’s natural beauty, historical significance, and cultural heritage while promoting tourism and sustainable growth. Minister El-Sharbin reiterated his commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project and emphasized the need for high-quality work that meets the needs of both the local community and visitors to this historically significant site.
