Housing and Development Bank Honored for Advancing Sustainable Banking Model in Arab Region

Mona Yousef

In a strong affirmation of its forward-leaning sustainability strategy, Housing and Development Bank (HDB) has been awarded the 2025 Award for Excellence in Advancing a Sustainable Business Environment by the World Union of Arab Bankers, during the 11th annual ceremony held in Beirut. The prestigious recognition places HDB among the region’s most progressive financial institutions in embedding environmental and social governance into its operational DNA.

The award was received by Hassan Ghanem,  Chairman & CEO  of HDB, in the presence of high-ranking banking leaders, policymakers, and international dignitaries.

“This recognition is not just a milestone for our bank—it is a signal of the kind of future we’re committed to building,” said Ghanem in remarks following the award.

A Sustainability Blueprint for Egypt’s Financial Sector

The accolade comes as part of HDB’s broader transformation agenda under its 2025–2030 strategic plan, which positions sustainability as a competitive imperative and national duty. From issuing green financial products and scaling digital inclusion tools, to adopting low-impact operational models and community-first credit strategies, the bank has aligned itself with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The World  Union of Arab Banks praised HDB’s leadership in redefining banking’s role in inclusive development, calling the bank “a regional exemplar of how financial institutions can drive systemic change while remaining commercially resilient.”

Strategic Resilience, Measurable Impact

Over the past year, HDB has accelerated investments in ESG integration across its product lines and internal governance, with particular emphasis on green lending, inclusive housing finance, and responsible risk management. These moves have allowed the bank to not only weather regional economic pressures but also outperform its sustainability benchmarks.

“We are honored by this recognition, which reflects the strength of our strategic vision and our unwavering commitment to sustainable growth,” said Hassan Ghanem “We will continue to seize promising opportunities and deliver strong results across both financial and operational fronts, guided by a clear roadmap for expansion and an unshakable belief in our ability to execute with efficiency and agility. This award reinforces our position as a leading full-service commercial bank in Egypt’s dynamic financial landscape.”

With this latest international recognition, HDB cements its status as a cornerstone of Egypt’s sustainable finance agenda—and a key regional player shaping what the next chapter of Arab banking could look like: inclusive, adaptive, and future-proof.  At HDB, sustainability is not a side initiative; it is the foundation of our long-term value creation and institutional growth.
