On the occasion of Egyptian Women’s Day and its inspiring achievements on all social, political, and economic levels, Embassies of Canada, Mexico, and Sweden organized a ceremony honoring the Pioneers of Change for the year 2023 at the residence of the Mexican Ambassador in Cairo.
During the ceremony, Dr. Nihal Balbaa, Deputy Governor of Beheira Governorate, was honored for her efforts in advocating and supporting the empowerment of women in the province as an active partner in the development programs supported by the Embassy of Canada.
Eight inspiring women were also honored, namely Dr. Nuria Sanz, Regional Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science in the Arab Countries, Director Sandra Nashat, Dr. Hana Abu Al-Ghar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and one of the founders of the Banati Foundation for Homeless Girls, Dr. Hala Barakat, Karma Muhammad Sami, Hiba Hindusa, Reham Shaaban, and Amira Sayed.
During the celebration, efforts were made to bridge gender gaps within the framework of raising competencies and enabling access to the digital field, increasing the participation of female cadres and girls in the labor market, especially in fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and increasing the participation of women in the technological field, as digital technology opens doors New to empower women, girls, and other marginalized groups globally.
Furthermore, it was emphasized that the digital age presents an unprecedented opportunity to eliminate all forms of disparity and inequality, from gender-sensitive digital learning to health and reproductive care facilitated by technology.
