The Housing and Development Bank (HDB) has inaugurated a newly renovated dormitory at Al-Amal School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Fayoum Governorate. This step reinforces its role as a socially responsible financial institution and advances inclusive education for students with disabilities.
Collaboration for Social Impact
The opening ceremony brought together senior representatives from both HDB and Sonaa El-Kheir. The choice of Al-Amal School was particularly significant, as it is the only educational institution in Fayoum serving boys with hearing impairments, making the dormitory project critical to both students and their families.
The project, carried out in cooperation with the Sonaa El-Kheir Foundation for Development, included a comprehensive renovation of the student residence. Improvements covered structural repairs, upgraded infrastructure, and the furnishing of dormitory rooms to provide a safe and supportive living environment. The bank allocated a total of EGP 2 million to complete the initiative.
He initiative covered full structural renovation, upgraded infrastructure, and newly furnished living spaces, creating a safe and supportive residential environment for students with hearing impairments.
Tackling Dropout Rates Through Inclusion
The new dormitory is designed to encourage students with special needs to continue their education, reducing dropout rates and supporting long-term social integration.
Hassan Ghanem, HDB CEO, emphasized the bank’s commitment to inclusion: “This project is a pivotal step in supporting the education and integration of students of determination. By ensuring safe and modern facilities, we are empowering young people to complete their studies with dignity and equal opportunity,” he said.
Ghanem highlighted that the initiative aligns with Egypt Vision 2030, the country’s sustainable development framework, and reflects HDB’s broader strategy of investing in high-impact community projects.
Strategic Partnerships for Greater Impact
The opening ceremony brought together Gehan El Goly , Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainable Development Sector at HDB, and Dr. Mustafa Zamzam, Chairman of Sonaa El-Kheir and Ambassador of Presidential “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life) initiative , along with senior representatives from both institutions.
El-Goly underlined the importance of choosing Al-Amal School, the only institution in Fayoum dedicated to boys with hearing impairments, making the project vital not only for the students but also for their families and the wider community.
“Supporting people of determination is a cornerstone of HDB’s CSR strategy. We aim to deliver sustainable initiatives that ease families’ burdens and expand opportunities for social and academic inclusion,” she noted.
Supporting Educational Inclusion
The upgraded dormitory is intended to create conditions that encourage students with hearing impairments to remain in school and complete their education. By offering better accommodation, the project also seeks to reduce dropout rates and ease the financial and logistical burdens faced by families in the governorate.
The initiative reflects HDB’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, which prioritizes support for people of determination and aims to expand access to education, healthcare, and community development opportunities.
Beyond this initiative, the Housing and Development Bank has previously contributed to similar projects, including the redevelopment of Al-Nour School for the Visually Impaired in Fayoum. The bank has also partnered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to support university students with disabilities from low-income families, ensuring greater academic and social participation.
The dormitory project illustrates how financial institutions in Egypt are increasingly linking business growth with community impact through high-value CSR investments.
