The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has been named one of the most beautiful museums in the world for 2024 by the Prix Versailles. The award was presented at a ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Paris and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Alaa Youssef, accepted the recognition. He highlighted the museum’s cultural and architectural significance. He described how its design blends ancient Egyptian history with the iconic Giza Pyramids. The museum also integrates modern artistic vision with advanced engineering, ensuring sustainability.
The GEM is the largest museum globally dedicated to a single civilization—the Pharaonic civilization. Ambassador Youssef invited attendees to visit the museum, which is in a partial opening phase. The official inauguration is set for later.
The Prix Versailles, established in 2015, honors architecture excellence in museums, universities, and airports. It rewards originality, innovation, and sustainability—qualities the Grand Egyptian Museum embodies.
