Governor Jacqueline Azar Champions Eco-Innovation in Agriculture at Scientific Conference in Beheira

Mona Yousef

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, inaugurated a scientific conference today in Beheira dedicated to showcasing bio-rhythmic pulse technology, a cutting-edge, green method for detecting and combating agricultural pests.

In her turn, Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, spearheaded the launch of Egypt’s first national conference dedicated to bio-resonance pulse technology, a cutting-edge method for pest detection and control. The event, held in Beheira, brought together senior government officials, scientific experts, and private-sector stakeholders, positioning the governorate at the forefront of Egypt’s transition to climate-smart farming.

Driving Green Innovation in Egypt’s Heartland

Delivering the opening address, Dr. Azar emphasized the transformative potential of bio-resonance technology, which uses ultra-low-frequency pulses to detect and suppress agricultural pests without the harmful side effects of chemical pesticides. The method, she noted, enhances productivity, protects environmental health, and aligns with Egypt’s broader vision for sustainable development.

The technology, recently piloted in New Valley Governorate to combat red palm weevil infestations, has demonstrated strong results. Dr. Azar announced plans to replicate and expand these successes across Beheira’s farming communities in cooperation with national research institutions.

From Presidential Vision to Local Action

Dr. Azar attributed this progressive momentum to the unwavering support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, whose administration has placed agriculture and food security at the core of Egypt’s national priorities.

During the conference, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Beheira Agricultural Directorate and Makers – Egypt Applied Research & Services, a leading developer of the resonance-based pest control technology and a subsidiary of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority. The agreement will pave the way for field-level application across targeted farms in the region.

Building Egypt’s Green Agricultural Future

The conference served as a platform for government officials and researchers to share progress and best practices. Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk praised the collaborative efforts between local governments, academia, and private enterprise, highlighting the Ministry’s strategy to modernize pest control systems using environmentally friendly technologies in line with EU Green Deal standards for 2050.

Dr. Azar echoed this direction, emphasizing that Beheira is well-positioned to become a regional hub for sustainable agriculture, thanks to its fertile lands, active farming community, and strong institutional support.

Applied Research at the Center

The event also spotlighted the scientific and practical achievements of the resonance-based technology. Already approved by the Ministry of Agriculture for use against several plant pathogens — including bacterial wilt in potatoes, white rot in onions and garlic, and parasitic nematodes — the system is now undergoing final field trials for full deployment against red palm weevils.

Dr. Azar noted that these advances reflect Egypt’s growing capacity for homegrown innovation, stressing that local scientific excellence must integrate with   public-sector leadership and private-sector investment.

Unified Efforts for National Impact

The conference drew participation from several governors and military leaders. Major General Mohamed El-Zamlout, Governor of New Valley, praised the inter-governorate cooperation that made the technology transfer possible, while Dr. Ayman El-Shahaby, Governor of Damietta, emphasized the importance of translating scientific research into real economic outcomes.

The gathering concluded with the honoring of pioneering researchers and agricultural experts, reinforcing the importance of national investment in applied science as a key driver of food security, economic resilience, and rural development.

A Vision Realized, a Path Forward

With the successful hosting of this landmark conference, Governor Jacqueline Azar has firmly positioned Beheira as a national model for innovation-led, environmentally sustainable agriculture. Her leadership reflects a wider transformation within Egypt — one where policy, science, and community converge to secure a greener, more productive future.
