Gaza Aid Distribution Increases Amid “Tactical Pause” as Famine Fears Persist

Mona Yousef

More than 120 truckloads of humanitarian aid were distributed in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, marking a significant development after Israel announced a limited “tactical pause” in military operations in the southern region. The move is aimed at creating safer conditions for the delivery and distribution of much-needed relief supplies in the war-torn enclave.

The Israeli defence ministry unit responsible for civil coordination in Palestinian territories, Sunday’s operation saw United Nations agencies and other international organizations pick up and distribute over 120 trucks of aid. A further 180 trucks entered Gaza and were awaiting collection, joining hundreds more still queued at entry points.

This development follows weeks of growing alarm from international organizations about deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the threat of famine in parts of Gaza. The United Nations and other humanitarian actors have consistently warned that the level of aid reaching civilians has been woefully insufficient, especially in areas heavily affected by ongoing conflict.

Global Calls to Protect Civilians from Hunger

Speaking at a UN conference in Ethiopia, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged the global community to reject the use of hunger as a weapon of war. He cited worsening conditions in multiple conflict zones, including Gaza and Sudan, as evidence of a broader global emergency fueled by climate disruption and warfare.

Israel has faced intensifying international scrutiny over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In response, the Israeli government denies accusations that it is restricting aid access as a tactic of war.  Jordan, and the UAE have coordinated parachute air drops of limited supplies, but humanitarian agencies maintain that sustained ground deliveries are critical to averting mass starvation.
