Floral Heritage on Display as Egypt Opens 92nd Spring Flowers Exhibition

Mona Yousef

Egypt’s 92nd Spring Flowers Exhibition commenced on Saturday at the Agricultural Museum in Giza’s Dokki district, marking its second consecutive year at this historic venue. Established in 1934, the exhibition is the oldest and largest of its kind in the Middle East, showcasing over 200 exhibitors presenting ornamental plants, rare species, and landscaping innovations.

The exhibition’s origins trace back to 1914, when the Egyptian Gardening Society, under Sultan Hussein Kamel, organized the first floral fair. Today, it serves as a significant platform for raising public awareness about the essential role plants and trees play in daily life, promoting a return to nature, and fostering interest in Egypt’s rich biodiversity and horticultural heritage.

This year’s event is held in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), featuring workshops and symposiums focused on the environmental benefits of ornamental horticulture. Organizers emphasize that flowers and plants contribute not only to aesthetics but also to improving air quality and combating climate change.

Visitors can explore traditional crafts, tree-planting initiatives, and examples of urban greening projects alongside the lush floral displays. The exhibition continues to serve as a key meeting point for landscape designers, gardeners, environmentalists, and nature enthusiasts alike.
