Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), Rasha Abdel Aal, announced that the Authority has officially begun receiving tax returns for the 2025 tax year as of January 1, in line with directives from Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk. The move is part of broader efforts to simplify tax procedures, enhance technical support, and encourage voluntary taxpayer compliance.
Abdel Aal said individuals can file their tax returns from January 1, 2026, through March 31, 2026, while companies have until April 30, 2026, or within four months from the end of their financial year. She emphasized that all tax returns must be submitted electronically through the ETA’s official digital platforms, reflecting the Authority’s ongoing digital transformation strategy.
Mandatory Use of Core Tax System for Large Taxpayers
The ETA chief clarified that taxpayers affiliated with the First and Second Large Taxpayers Centres, the Large Free Professions Centre in Cairo, and the Large and Medium Taxpayers Centres in Alexandria (Lower Egypt) and Hurghada (Upper Egypt) are required to submit their returns via the new core tax business system, available on the Authority’s official website.
This requirement also applies to taxpayers registered with the First and Second Medium Taxpayers Centres, as well as those located in integrated areas under the Cairo First, Second, Third, and Fourth Tax Regions and the Qalyubia Tax Region. Other taxpayers will continue to file their returns through the existing electronic tax services portal.
Expanded Facilitation and Technical Support
Abdel Aal stressed that the ETA has introduced a comprehensive package of facilitation measures to ensure a smooth filing process. These include free daily awareness seminars for taxpayers and accountants, led by specialized instructors who explain electronic filing procedures, provide practical assistance, and address technical challenges.
The Authority has also formed technical support committees operating at professional syndicates, civil society institutions, chambers of commerce, and business federations. In parallel, dedicated technical support teams have been deployed across tax offices nationwide to respond to inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
Call for Compliance and Transparency
The ETA head urged taxpayers to adhere to the announced deadlines, underscoring the Authority’s commitment to delivering a simplified, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly system that strengthens trust and promotes voluntary compliance.
She added that taxpayers can direct inquiries or seek assistance through the ETA’s dedicated hotline at 16395.
The early launch of the filing season and expanded support measures reflect the Ministry of Finance’s push to modernize Egypt’s tax administration, improve efficiency, and foster a culture of compliance aligned with international best practices.
