ETA Launches AI Task Force to Drive Digital Transformation

Mona Yousef

For modernizing its tax administration, the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) announced the formation of a dedicated task force to lead the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into Egypt’s taxation system. The move is part of the authority’s broader digital transformation strategy, aligned with Egypt Vision 2030.

Rasha Abdel Aal, Head of the ETA, made the announcement on Monday, stating that embracing AI and other emerging technologies is no longer optional but an institutional necessity.

The announcement follows ETA’s active participation in the IEEE Computer Society AI Caravan 2025, a multi-university initiative held between April and July under the patronage of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The AI Caravan included workshops, lectures, and technical dialogues with students and researchers from leading academic institutions, including the American University in Cairo (AUC), the German University in Cairo (GUC) , Coventry University, Misr University for Informatics, Nile University, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, as well as El Sewedy University and the National Academy for Information Technology

During the program, ETA representatives presented AI pilot project proposals targeting core challenges in tax administration, such as service delays, compliance tracking, data analysis inefficiencies, and internal workflow bottlenecks. Several proposals have received approval and are now moving into early-stage implementation—subject to strict adherence to international data security and confidentiality standards.

Abdel Aal emphasized that this initiative is the first in a series of technological transformations for  enhancing institutional capability, promoting transparency, and delivering smarter, faster, and more secure services to Egyptian taxpayers.

The task force will collaborate closely with both public and private sector stakeholders, ensuring a secure and scalable integration of AI into core operations. The focus will include intelligent analytics, predictive modeling, real-time service delivery, and advanced compliance systems.

This development underscores the Finance Ministry’s commitment, under Minister Ahmed Kojak, to reform public finance institutions and promote data-driven governance in line with global best practices.
