Environment Ministry Organizes a Workshop on Women’s Economic Empowerment in Environmental Projects

Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organized a workshop on “Economic Empowerment of Women in Environmental Projects” in Port Fouad.

This workshop was organized in accordance with the directives of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, the Minister of Environment, and aimed to enhance women’s role and increase their participation in environmental protection.

The two-day workshop covered a diverse range of topics. Eng. Samah Saleh, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Environment, discussed the concepts of gender, environment, and economic empowerment, providing a comprehensive overview of the subject matter.

Dr. Shaimaa Naeem, Director General of the General Administration of Strategy at the National Council for Women, delivered a lecture titled “Economic Empowerment of Women,” presenting successful experiences from different countries in women’s economic and environmental empowerment.

For his part, Eng. Mohamed Mustafa, Director of Training and Awareness at the Ministry of Environment, highlighted ways to support women’s and local communities’ participation in ecotourism.

Following that, Dr. Wahad Samir, a Professor at the Higher Institute of Applied Arts and Member of the National Council for Women, Cairo Branch, spoke about encouraging women’s participation in investment, particularly in small and medium enterprises.

Lastly, Eng. Duaa Ahmed Barbary, Head of the Central Administration for Technical Support at the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, presented women’s participation in investment in the waste management field.

During the workshop, successful models of handicrafts and recycling projects were showcased, along with the role of women’s economic empowerment programs, handicrafts, and waste recycling.

Moreover, Eng. Islam Abdel Majeed, Director General of Civil Society Organizations at the Ministry of Environment, formed working groups to monitor projects that could be implemented in the attendees’ areas.
