Empowerment. Training. Success… Women in Aswan Step into Entrepreneurship with Confidence

Mona Yousef

In the heart of the stunning southern city of Aswan, a powerful wave of change is taking root—one that’s equipping local women with the tools they need to transform their ideas into thriving businesses.

Under the banner “Empowerment.. Training.. Success!”, women across Aswan recently took part in a dynamic entrepreneurship training program designed to unlock their potential and guide them on the path to financial independence.

Organized by the National Council for Women (NCW) in collaboration with Banque Misr, and as part of Egypt’s National Project for Family Development, this initiative aligns with the presidential “Decent Life” (Hayah Karima) campaign, which aims to uplift communities and improve quality of life across Egypt—especially in underserved rural areas.

Training Women to Lead

Participants were trained in the essentials of business management, from building professional project plans to mastering the fundamentals of marketing, strategic planning, and entrepreneurship.

Workshops tackled critical skills like:

  • Innovation and opportunity evaluation
  • Time management and setting priorities
  • Understanding business models
  • How to register and license a business

But this initiative went beyond training. One of the most impactful aspects was connecting women with government and private sector institutions that offer funding, mentorship, and logistical support for small and micro enterprises. This ensures that these aspiring entrepreneurs aren’t just learning—they’re launching.

Bridging the Gap from Idea to Implementation

The program reflects Egypt’s broader push for women’s economic empowerment, a cornerstone of national development policy. By focusing on real-world skills and providing access to resources, the initiative helps bridge the gap between ambition and action, especially in communities that have traditionally had limited access to economic opportunities.

 Model for Inclusive Development

Aswan’s entrepreneurship program is just one example of the growing movement to integrate women more deeply into Egypt’s economic landscape. It also sets a precedent for other regions to follow—showing that with the right training, support, and networks, women everywhere can be powerful drivers of change.
