Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, presided over the inauguration of the Government Data and Cloud Computing Center (P1) on Sunday, marking a significant step forward in Egypt’s digital transformation ambitions. The P1 Center represents a first-of-its-kind facility in North Africa, specializing in big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing technologies. This innovative center promises to deliver a multitude of benefits for the Egyptian government.
Big data processing and AI integration will streamline government operations, leading to significant cost and time savings. The Center offers critical applications and advanced data analysis tools to empower informed decision-making across all government levels. P1 serves as a reliable backup for the New Capital Data Center, guaranteeing data security and continuity in the event of disruptions. The Center ensures government data remains within Egypt’s borders, strengthening data security and control. He also cited investments in expanding internet speeds and mobile network coverage.
On the other hand. Communications and IT Minister, Amr Talaat, made remarks during the inauguration ceremony. He elaborated on the core pillars of Egypt’s digital strategy. In this regard, initiatives like “Digital Egypt Pioneers” and “Builders of Digital Egypt” will enable young Egyptians to thrive in the digital economy. Besides, the government is actively fostering innovation through programs like “Digital Egypt Creativity Centers” and dedicated support for tech startups.
President El-Sisi acknowledged the current gap between Egypt’s digital potential and its existing workforce. He stressed the importance of increased investment in human capital, particularly in programming and data science education. The President pledged his unwavering support for these critical fields, acknowledging their potential to fuel economic growth. Such strategic move positions Egypt to become a regional frontrunner in digital transformation.
