The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has announced the signing of a significant partnership agreement to establish a cutting-edge smart truck terminal at West Port Said Port. The project, which comes at a cost of 250 million EGP, is designed to tackle the ongoing congestion at the port and optimize logistics operations by leveraging advanced technologies aimed at improving the flow of trucks to and from the port. The initiative is poised to position the port as a leading regional logistics hub.

Egytrans CEO, Abir Leheta, has spearheaded a strategic collaboration to establish a state-of-the-art smart truck terminal at West Port Said Port. The groundbreaking project, valued at 250 million EGP, aims to streamline port operations, alleviate congestion, and enhance the efficiency of the supply chain, positioning the port as a pivotal regional logistics hub.

The official partnership agreement was signed in the presence of Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), and Major General Mabrouk Hegazi, Governor of Port Said, with Leheta representing Egytrans . The smart terminal, which will be developed and operated in partnership with Nafith International, promises to introduce innovative technological solutions to optimize the movement of goods through the port, drastically reducing delays and improving operational accuracy.

As part of this ambitious initiative, the 114,000 square-meter facility will incorporate a range of advanced technologies, including RFID-based tracking systems, automated gates, and a central command and control center. The terminal will also feature a comprehensive digital platform for managing vehicle registrations and enhancing coordination among all logistics stakeholders, offering a seamless and efficient pre-arrival process for trucks.

Leheta, a seasoned leader with extensive expertise in logistics, emphasized the transformative nature of the project, highlighting how the smart terminal would not only ease congestion but also help Egypt’s trade sector compete at a global scale. “This collaboration reflects our shared vision of leveraging cutting-edge technology to modernize Egypt’s logistics infrastructure and create a more efficient and competitive supply chain. The smart terminal will enhance the flow of goods through Port Said, reduce operational delays, and ultimately attract more investments to Egypt’s logistics sector,” Leheta stated during the signing ceremony.

Her leadership has been instrumental in bringing together Egytrans’ extensive logistics expertise with Nafith International’s global technological solutions. The partnership seeks to offer innovative pre-shipment solutions and digital tools for managing overland transport, directly benefiting the efficiency of truck movement in and out of the port.

Leheta also underscored the broader economic impact of the project, noting that the modernization of Port Said’s port facilities will lower transportation costs and facilitate smoother trade operations, directly benefiting both the local community and global trade partners. “Egytrans, in collaboration with Nafith, is committed to driving the digital transformation of Egypt’s logistics ecosystem. This will improve operational efficiency across the board and foster a more dynamic and competitive market environment,” she explained.

The smart truck terminal is part of a broader strategy by the Suez Canal Economic Zone to modernize the region’s port infrastructure, simplify logistics processes, and optimize Egypt’s role as a critical global trade conduit. According to Walid Gamal El-Din, the project will significantly increase West Port Said’s capacity and competitiveness, benefiting local and international businesses alike.

Nafith International, with its extensive track record of implementing digital logistics solutions in Jordan, Iraq, and Oman, brings added value to the project. Samir Mubarak, Chairman of Nafith International, highlighted the potential of the partnership, noting that Nafith’s advanced systems, which handle over 12,000 trucks daily and execute more than 7 million logistics movements annually, will be vital to the terminal’s success.

The smart terminal will be equipped with automated features, including an RFID-based container identification system, ensuring smooth truck entry and exit processes. With a focus on efficiency, the system will also offer real-time tracking and management, significantly reducing the time required for goods to move through the port.

Construction on the project is set to begin shortly, with the terminal expected to be operational in six months and fully functional within a year. The partnership between Egytrans, Nafith International, and the SCZone marks a significant step toward achieving Egypt’s ambitious goal of becoming a global logistics hub, enhancing the efficiency of its trade infrastructure and fostering economic growth.
