Egypt’s Women’s Handball team made history by securing their first-ever spot at the World Championship after defeating DR Congo 23-22 in the ongoing African Championship quarterfinals.

The four teams that reached the final four of the continental tournament have automatically qualified for the World Championship, which will take place in Germany and the Netherlands next November.

Egypt secured its spot after a thrilling victory over the host nation, DR Congo. Their goalkeeper, May Gomaa, was instrumental in their win, earning the match’s best player title.

Egypt started the tournament strong, winning its first two matches against Congo and Algeria. It faced a setback against Senegal but recovered, defeating Kenya and Cape Verde to finish second in its group.

In the semifinals, Egypt will face the defending champions, Angola, while Tunisia will play Senegal. The winners of these matches will meet in the final.

All four teams are now set to compete in the World Championship.
