The Egyptian singer and actress Sherine Abdel-Wahab has made history by becoming the first Arab and Egyptian to receive the Global Force Award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, held in Los Angeles.
The award was established during this year’s Billboard Women in Music and is given to those who continue to influence and inspire people worldwide through their music.
Sherine Abdel-Wahab was honored alongside Kylie Minogue, Karol G, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, NewJeans, and others. With the help of Billboard Arabia, Sherine received the award for ranking number one on the Arab Billboard charts and having a significant musical influence over the past two decades, as well as its global reach.
In her acceptance speech, Sherine stated: I hope that my work reaches the entire world.
This has always been a dream of mine. Born on October 8, 1980, Sherine Sayed Mohamed Abdel-Wahab started her career when her school music teacher discovered her talent as a child.
Her teacher persuaded her mother to take her to the Cairo Opera House to meet veteran musician Selim Sahab. Sherine auditioned in front of him, and he was impressed with her voice.
She was a choral member at the Cairo Opera House from nine to twelve before being allowed to perform as a soloist. Billboard Women in Music is an annual event founded by the company in 2007.
The primary honor of the event is the Woman of the Year award, which is given to women in the music industry who have made noteworthy contributions to the industry and who encourage future generations of women to assume more responsibility in the sector.
