The Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers for Zone 5 nations kicked off with a bang in Cairo on Monday at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall, and Egypt’s top players were the stars of the show, dominating the opening day with exceptional performances.

Nadine Mohamed (Egypt)
Egypt’s Nadine Mohamed, a standout guard for Al Ahly Sporting Club, lit up the court in her 21 minutes of play. Scoring an impressive 22 points, Mohamed drained six three-pointers and added two more baskets in the paint. Her contributions didn’t stop there — she also tallied four steals, three rebounds, and an assist, finishing with a remarkable efficiency rating of 23. Despite the intensity of the match, Mohamed remained poised, finishing without committing a single foul, further cementing her status as one of the day’s most impressive players.

Raneem Elgedawy (Egypt)
Raneem Elgedawy, the dominant centre for Egypt, continued to showcase her leadership in the paint. Scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds, Elgedawy was just two rebounds shy of a double-double. With three steals and an assist to her name, she finished the game with an efficiency rating of 18. While her shooting from the paint (38.5%, 5/13) showed room for improvement, Elgedawy’s all-around performance was crucial for Egypt, as they aim to defend their title as reigning champions.

In addition to these standout performances, Egypt’s squad continues to show strength and depth, with the two stars leading the charge as the team looks to build on its legacy in the tournament. As the host nation, Egypt’s dominance on opening day sets the stage for an exciting run toward the AfroBasket Qualifiers’ next stages.
