Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Gawhar Nabil, has congratulated teenage judoka Safa Soliman after she secured what officials described as the first women’s medal for Egypt in a senior-level Judo World Cup event.

Soliman , 19, claimed her podium finish at a senior World Cup tournament held in Slovenia, marking a breakthrough moment for Egyptian women’s judo on the international stage.

The minister extended his congratulations to the Egyptian Judo Federation, headed by Mohamed Motei, praising the federation’s role in developing competitive talent capable of challenging established international programs.

Investment in Youth Development

Nabil said the achievement reflects broader state support for youth sports development, pointing to continued political backing for talent identification and athlete preparation programs.

He added that Soliman’s performance at just 19 years old signals Egypt’s capacity to produce a new generation of athletes capable of competing strongly on the world stage.

Still in her teens, Soliman competes as part of Egypt’s national team and is also a member of the National Talent and Olympic Champion Project, a government-backed initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing promising athletes from a young age.
