Russian President Vladimir Putin will be heading to Egypt to participate in a significant event at the Daba’a Nuclear Power Plant.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin are set to partake in a ceremony next week at the Daba’a nuclear power plant in Egypt, where they will jointly issue the command to pour the first concrete for the plant’s fourth power unit, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that preparations are underway for Putin’st involvement in the pouring of concrete for the plant’s fourth reactor.

The Daba’a nuclear power plant is Rosatom’s inaugural major project in Africa. Rosatom, the state corporation overseeing the construction, aims to complete four power plant units with VVER-1200 reactors by 2028, according to Peskov.

This massive project, which includes four nuclear reactors with capacities of 1.2 gigawatts each, is expected to cost USD 30 billion (EGP 924 billion).

Egypt plans to begin construction on the first and second reactors in 2022, with the foundation for the third reactor laid in May 2023, with the plant expected to be fully operational by 2030.

Peskov emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Russia and Egypt, particularly in advanced technologies critical to Egypt’s development. Peskov emphasized Russia’s leadership in the global nuclear industry, claiming that they provide better, cheaper, and higher-quality services than other market participants.

Back in 2015, Egypt and Russia co-signed a cooperation agreement to establish a nuclear power plant with an investment cost of $25 Billion (EGO 770 billion).
