Nearly 150 foreign correspondents gathered at Egypt’s Rafah border crossing to report live on the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, following the implementation of a ceasefire early that morning. The event was organized by Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) and was a testament to the country’s ongoing humanitarian efforts.

According to SIS Head Diaa Rashwan, the media coverage featured 150 journalists from 85 international media outlets, showcasing Egypt’s relentless dedication to supporting the Palestinian people since the conflict’s escalation on October 7, 2024. This coverage demonstrated Egypt’s political, humanitarian, logistical, and legal initiatives aimed at halting violence, preventing further displacement, and de-escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The media coverage, which spanned print, television, radio, and online platforms, included major outlets such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, the BBC, CNN, and Al Jazeera, as well as outlets from the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This global media presence underscored the international significance of the ceasefire and the humanitarian aid efforts.

The event highlighted hundreds of aid trucks transporting food, medical supplies, fuel, and essential household items into Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Foreign correspondents captured the convoy’s movement towards Gaza, documenting the aid as it made its way to critical locations such as Al-Auja and Karm Abu Salem crossings.

Many journalists commended Egypt’s efficient coordination, with the SIS providing seamless feed links and video footage. The organization’s robust logistical infrastructure was also praised for ensuring smooth media coverage despite the complexities of the situation.

Rashwan pointed out that this media visit marked the 14th organized during the crisis, following previous high-profile visits by international dignitaries such as the UN Secretary-General, European Union officials, and Egypt’s Prime Minister. The SIS’s ongoing engagement with foreign media reflects Egypt’s commitment to transparency in its humanitarian efforts.

Foreign journalists also expressed interest in expanding coverage of Egypt’s medical evacuation efforts and patient care facilities in the future, further emphasizing Egypt’s pivotal role in coordinating humanitarian assistance and offering transparency throughout the crisis.
