Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has officially announced that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has approved November 1, 2025, as the date for the long-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) — a historic cultural milestone that has been years in the making.
Speaking at the cabinet meeting held at the government’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly emphasized the significance of the upcoming inauguration. He directed all relevant ministries and governmental bodies to expedite final preparations to ensure the museum and surrounding area are presented in a manner befitting its global stature.
The Prime Minister revealed that the grand opening is expected to attract high-profile international dignitaries and cultural figures, alongside various world leaders. A series of accompanying cultural and artistic events are also planned, highlighting Egypt’s historical and contemporary role as a cultural epicenter.
Located near the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum is positioned to be the largest archaeological museum in the world. Once open, it will house over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures, many of which will be displayed together for the first time. The project aims to establish Egypt as a key destination for heritage tourism in the 21st century.
With the Grand Egyptian Museum’s long-awaited opening now on the calendar, Egypt is poised to mark a turning point in its cultural diplomacy and tourism trajectory. More than a celebration of Egypt’s storied past, the November 1 opening symbolizes the nation’s vision and determination for a prominent future worldwide
