Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has completed a nationwide hearing survey for 7.3 million children, part of a presidential initiative launched in 2019 to address early hearing loss detection and treatment. The initiative aims to identify hearing impairments in newborns and provide timely medical intervention to improve their quality of life.
Following initial screenings, 388,950 children will undergo a second evaluation a week later at the same unit. A further 48,382 children, who showed signs of hearing issues in the follow-up test, have been referred to hospitals and specialized centers for advanced assessment. Depending on their condition, these children will begin medical treatment, receive hearing aids, or be considered for cochlear implants.
This initiative underscores Egypt’s commitment to improving healthcare for children with hearing impairments and ensuring they receive the necessary support for a better future.
