Today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, held a meeting with Dr. Yasmine Fouad, the Minister of Environment, to follow up on various initiatives and projects within the Ministry of Environment.
During the meeting, Dr. Yasmine Fouad provided a detailed presentation on the Ministry’s efforts in managing natural reserves between 2018 and 2024. She outlined the actions taken to promote these reserves as key destinations for eco-tourism, as well as the strategies for addressing challenges related to this important sector.
The Minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to support environmental development and protection across several natural reserves, including the Hankerab Beach area in the Wadi El-Gemal Reserve, Wadi Degla, Wadi El-Rayan, Lake Qarun, and the Petrified Forest area. These efforts are part of the government’s broader commitment to preserve Egypt’s biodiversity and promote sustainable tourism.
Additionally, Dr. Fouad shared the results of the recent visit by a World Bank delegation in Cairo, which was tasked with supporting joint projects related to the blue economy, air pollution management, and climate change. She emphasized that the World Bank team had commended the progress made in the air pollution and climate change management project in Greater Cairo. She also noted that work is underway to draft a national strategy for the blue economy, reflecting the government’s strong interest in this crucial issue.
As part of the celebrations for National Environment Day 2025, Dr. Fouad also conducted a site visit to several environmental projects in Sharm El Sheikh. These projects, spanning across multiple sectors—particularly tourism—aim to foster the development of natural reserves and include new and renewable energy initiatives in partnership with international development partners. The Ministry’s goal is to make environmental investment a reality, supporting economic and social development by fostering low-carbon economic growth. Dr. Fouad emphasized the need for innovative solutions that encourage the private sector and entrepreneurs to invest in environmental and climate-related projects.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Dr. Madbouly affirmed the importance of continuing the efforts to protect and develop natural reserves while completing the environmental projects in coordination with relevant state agencies. This collaborative approach ensures that Egypt remains on track to meet its sustainable development and environmental goals.
