Egypt’s NCW Launches “Women, Peace and Security” Door-to-Door Campaign Ahead of Int’l Day of Peace 2025

In celebration of the International Day of Peace, Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) will launch a nationwide door-to-door awareness campaign titled “Women, Peace, and Security”, starting Monday, September 22, and running through September 24, 2025, across all 27 Egyptian governorates.

This grassroots campaign comes within the framework of the “Support Egypt’s Women’s Leadership” project, aligning with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and is conducted in partnership with UN Women Egypt and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

Empowering Women as Peacebuilders

The campaign seeks to raise awareness among Egyptian women of their critical role in preserving social peace, promoting tolerance, and combating misinformation within their communities.

“Our goal is to empower women to be key actors in promoting peace and social cohesion,” said Yasmine Zakaria, Director General of Campaigns and Public Awareness at the NCW. “This campaign emphasizes acceptance, coexistence, and the importance of countering divisive narratives.”

Nationwide Participation and Local Leadership

The campaign will mobilize NCW branch members, female community leaders, young female volunteers, and religious leaders across Egypt. These grassroots teams will go door-to-door, engaging directly with women in their homes to share messages of:

  • Peace preservation
  • Tolerance and acceptance of others
  • Women’s empowerment
  • Community resilience against rumors and disinformation

This outreach model reflects the NCW’s long-standing commitment to community-based engagement, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Pre-Campaign Training and Coordination

Ahead of the campaign’s launch, the NCW conducted capacity-building training for all participating field representatives—including female leaders, volunteers, and religious figures—to ensure they are well-equipped to convey the campaign’s key messages effectively and sensitively.

This training also highlighted the importance of aligning with Egypt’s national strategies for sustainable development, gender equality, and peacebuilding.

UN Resolution 1325 and Local Implementation

The campaign is grounded in UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for increased participation of women in all aspects of peacebuilding and conflict prevention. Egypt has taken significant steps to integrate this agenda into national policy frameworks, and this campaign reflects a tangible example of its local implementation.

By investing in women as agents of change, Egypt affirms its commitment to inclusive peace and the empowerment of women in shaping a more resilient society.
