As part of her official visit to Shalateen, Justice Amal Ammar, President of Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW), toured the city’s Vocational Training Center, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to economic empowerment for women in border and remote regions.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation—including Major General Mohamed El-Banna, Head of Shalateen City, Red Sea Deputy Governor Magda Hanna, and NCW officials such as Nashwa El-Houfi, Isis Mahmoud, Marwa Hamdi, and Dr. Nahla El-Saeedy, the visit showcased local initiatives that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern vocational training.

Showcasing Local Talent and Identity

Justice Ammar expressed admiration for the center’s diverse workshops, which included tailoring studios, woodworking units, and exhibits of handcrafted leather, fabric, and wooden products—all produced by local women.

She emphasized the NCW’s intention to partner with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Shalateen Local Government to launch comprehensive sewing training programs aimed at creating income-generating opportunities for women in the region.

“Our goal is to achieve real economic inclusion for women by offering practical, market-relevant skills that lead to dignified employment,” said Ammar.

Preserving Heritage Through Handicrafts

The visit concluded with a stop at a woman-led handicrafts workshop, where traditional items made of palm fronds, leather, and straw reflect the cultural identity of Shalateen. Justice Ammar praised these efforts, noting their importance in preserving local heritage while supporting livelihoods.

She also commended the Red Sea Governorate for its ongoing support of women and families through context-sensitive development projects tailored to the local environment and social structure.

In her remarks, Justice Ammar reiterated the importance of awareness campaigns to combat harmful practices, including early marriage, calling for continued advocacy to promote women’s rights and protection in marginalized communities.

Infrastructure and Services for a Better Life

The delegation also visited the Shalateen Local Government Unit, where Major General El-Banna delivered a presentation outlining development efforts in the city. Key initiatives include:

  • Upgrading road infrastructure
  • Deploying solar-powered electricity with free access for residents
  • Improving basic public services to elevate the standard of living

These projects align with Egypt’s national goals of ensuring inclusive development across all governorates, particularly in remote and underdeveloped areas. Ammar praises local crafts and pledges support for expanding skill-based programs in partnership with government agencies
