Egypt’s Minister of Communications Convenes With  TE Leadership, Welcoming the New CEO

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, today welcomed Eng. Tamer El Mahdy, the newly appointed Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, in a high-level meeting that also included Lobna Helal, Chair of the Board, and outgoing CEO Eng. Mohamed Nasr Eldin.

The meeting follows a Board of Directors session held earlier today, during which the board approved the appointment of Eng. El Mahdy as CEO and Managing Director, after accepting the resignation of Eng. Nasr Eldin, who requested to step down from the executive role.


Leadership for a New Digital Era

In his remarks, Minister Talaat underscored the pivotal role of Telecom Egypt in the country’s digital transformation agenda, highlighting its contributions to expanding national and international digital infrastructure.

He pointed to the company’s key role in national projects, such as the development of digital infrastructure across villages under the presidential initiative “Hayah Kareema” (Decent Life).

The Minister expressed his full confidence in El Mahdy’s ability to build on the company’s recent achievements and to steer it through the next phase of innovation and growth. He also extended heartfelt thanks to outgoing CEO Mohamed Nasr Eldin, acknowledging his leadership during a critical phase of Telecom Egypt’s expansion and modernization.


Who is Eng. Tamer El Mahdy?

Appointed to Telecom Egypt’s Board in March 2025 as a government representative, Eng. Tamer El Mahdy brings over 30 years of global experience in telecoms, digital transformation, and infrastructure development.

He is the Founder and Chairman of Trade Globe and Terrawaves Networks, where since 2020 he has led operations across global telecom consulting, network design, and infrastructure development.

Between 2014 and 2019, El Mahdy served as CEO of Orascom Telecom Media & Technology Holding (OTMT), where he led a comprehensive strategic transformation, expanding operations across Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East. Prior to that, he was CEO of Djezzy (Orascom Telecom Algeria) from 2008 to 2013, managing Algeria’s largest mobile operator.

Earlier in his career, El Mahdy held the role of Group CTO at Orascom Telecom Holding (2003–2008), overseeing multibillion-dollar investments and spearheading mobile network launches in Canada, Bangladesh, Iraq, and North Korea.

He began his professional journey at AT&T, where he led major telecom infrastructure projects across North Africa.
