Egypt’s Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, met with a delegation from the Hayah Karima Foundation on Sunday to discuss deepening collaboration across governorates, aiming to enhance social protection and sustainable development initiatives. The meeting underscored the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in advancing Egypt’s ambitious development agenda.
Strengthening Ties for Community Impact
Dr. Awad welcomed Dr. Ahoud Wafi, Chairperson of Hayat Kareema’s Board of Trustees, Buthaina Mustafa, Vice Chairperson, and Dr. Marwa Fakhri, Executive Director, alongside senior ministry officials. The discussions centered on aligning the foundation’s grassroots efforts with the government’s goals to uplift living standards and deliver essential services to diverse communities.“Hayat Kareema’s work is a cornerstone of our national development strategy,” Dr. Awad said, praising the foundation’s 50,000 volunteers and 28 regional offices for their contributions to education, healthcare, and job creation. The foundation’s initiatives, including support for brides, food aid, and economic empowerment programs, have touched millions, particularly in rural areas targeted by the first phase of the Hayat Kareema presidential initiative.
Shared Vision for Sustainable Development
The meeting explored mechanisms to bolster Hayat Kareema’s social protection activities, especially ahead of Eid al-Adha. Dr. Awad directed executive bodies across governorates to support the foundation’s developmental programs, such as free medical, agricultural, and veterinary convoys, and the operation of 40 subsidized meat and poultry outlets, with plans to expand to 100 by the end of 2025.Hayat Kareema’s efforts also include job fairs under the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Office, training programs for youth and women, and humanitarian aid during crises, aligning with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s directives. Dr. Wafi highlighted the foundation’s commitment to fostering equitable opportunities and empowering breadwinning women through social and economic programs that ensure dignity and security.
Promoting Artisanal Heritage and Youth Training
A key focus of the discussions was collaboration on handicraft and heritage projects. The ministry’s “Aiyady Masr” platform and Hayah Karima’s “Sirr el-Sanaa” initiative aim to support female artisans by promoting their crafts and providing market access. Additionally, both parties agreed to enhance vocational training for youth in governorate-based craft centers, creating sustainable job opportunities and fostering economic resilience.
Model for Inclusive Growth
By integrating Hayah Karima’s community-driven approach with the ministry’s resources, this partnership sets a precedent for inclusive development.
