Mona Yousef

Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade,  Hassan El Khatib, met with Hisham Shatta, Managing Partner of “Incom” – the Egyptian partner of the Chinese CSCEC, along with a number of investors in the green energy sector. The meeting aimed to explore new investment opportunities that could contribute to enhancing sustainable economic development in Egypt.

Key Green Energy Projects on the Table

One of the main topics discussed during the meeting was the “Atlas Project”, which plans to establish a global data center complex powered by renewable energy, specifically supported by a dedicated solar power plant. The project is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to enhance its sustainable digital infrastructure and attract investments in the technology and clean energy sectors.

Another significant initiative discussed was the “Rosetta Minerals Project”, an integrated plan to process and manufacture kaolin sands. This project aims to develop the industrial sector and add value to local natural resources. The project is expected to increase local production and boost exports, ultimately supporting economic growth and enhancing the global competitiveness of Egyptian products.

Additionally, the meeting touched on a project related to dry bulk cargo handling at Sokhna Port, further strengthening Egypt’s infrastructure and logistics capabilities.

Government’s Commitment to Renewable Energy and Digital Infrastructure

During the discussion, Minister El Khatib emphasized the government’s strong commitment to supporting investments in renewable energy and digital infrastructure. He highlighted Egypt’s rich natural resources, including high-quality white sand, which provide significant opportunities for the country’s manufacturing industries and export growth.

The Minister also stressed the importance of localizing the clean energy industry within Egypt. He pointed out that the government is focused on boosting local manufacturing of key components for the renewable energy sector, such as solar glass panels. This initiative will help reduce reliance on imports, create new job opportunities, and position Egypt as a regional hub for green energy manufacturing.

Building Egypt’s Green Energy Future

Minister El Khatib reiterated that supporting local manufacturing in the clean energy sector is not only crucial for reducing import dependency but also for fostering economic growth and job creation. By bolstering its position as a green energy manufacturing center, Egypt is well on its way to becoming a leader in the regional and global green energy market.

These projects and initiatives align with Egypt’s larger vision of driving sustainable development through innovation, increased foreign investment, and regional cooperation, all while promoting a green transition in the country’s economy.
