The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Egypt celebrates the historic International Day of Women in Diplomacy today. This significant day, established by UN General Assembly Resolution 76/269 in 2022, serves as a testament to the remarkable strides made by women in diplomacy, as reported by the Ministry’s website.
In a statement released earlier this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the notable national journey of Egyptian female diplomats over the past fifty years. The Ministry pointed out that since recruiting the first woman into the diplomatic corps in 1964, it has recognized women’s important and influential role in diplomacy.
As it celebrates this momentous occasion, the Ministry renews its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. It remains steadfast in its mission to provide women with equal opportunities to showcase their capabilities and contribute to diplomacy.
The Ministry also noted that in recent years, the proportion of women joining the diplomatic corps has reached nearly 50%.
Since joining the diplomatic service, Egyptian women have shown dedication to the nation’s interests in various positions within and outside Egypt, including in crisis and conflict zones.
They have demonstrated professionalism and the ability to endure hardships, recording inspiring success stories, including holding leadership positions in national institutions and international organizations.
The Ministry further affirmed that Egyptian diplomacy will remain a rich national school, with both women and men providing an honorable model of work and dedication to elevating and leading the nation among the world’s countries.
