Egypt’s Foreign Minister Supports Dr. Hanan Morsy’s Candidacy for Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission

On December 23, 2024, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, welcomed Dr. Hanan Morsy, Egypt’s candidate for Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC). The meeting, which included Ambassador Ashraf Swelim, Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, focused on reviewing Dr. Morsy’s ongoing campaign and her recent African tour to engage with African Union member states.

Minister Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its role within regional and international organizations. He emphasized that Dr. Morsy’s candidacy aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to reinforce its presence in global governance while supporting qualified Egyptian nationals for leadership positions within the African Union. He also highlighted the widespread support Dr. Morsy has garnered across Africa, citing her academic and professional qualifications as key factors in her strong candidacy.
