Digitizing the national education system, the Education Development Fund (EDF), operating under the Egyptian Cabinet, has introduced robot technology to assist students during entrance examinations at the Egypt-Japan Kosen Technical Institute. This marks the first implementation of robotic guidance in admissions procedures across Egyptian educational institutions.
Transforming Education Through Innovation
According to Dr. Rasha Saad Sharaf, Secretary-General of the EDF, the robots were deployed to provide technical support and real-time guidance to students taking the entrance tests. The initiative took place in computer labs at both the EDF headquarters in 6th of October City and the Training Center of the Productivity and Efficiency Institute in 10th of Ramadan City.
“This pioneering move is part of our broader strategy to adopt cutting-edge technology across educational projects,” said Dr. Sharaf in the official statement. “The use of robots aims to create an immersive and interactive testing environment that reflects Egypt’s growing investment in educational innovation.”
Human-Robot Interaction in Testing Environments
The robot-guided experience included a full suite of pre-exam briefings, such as instructions on test structure, question formats, the day’s schedule, and designated break periods. This, Dr. Sharaf explained, contributed significantly to reducing test anxiety and mentally preparing students before the exam.
On the first day alone, 90 students were welcomed by the robots, which also handled technical troubleshooting and logistical coordination — a role typically filled by human staff.
Digital Testing, Instant Results
The entrance test itself consisted of four main sections: Mathematics, Science, English, and Critical Thinking — each comprising 60 questions. Exams were conducted electronically in dedicated computer labs, with a 30-minute intermission provided for rest and refreshment.
In a nod to transparency and efficiency, exam results were displayed immediately on-screen upon submission. Students and their guardians were also briefed on the next steps in the admissions process through automated and staff-supported channels.
Parental Praise and Institutional Pride
The initiative was met with widespread approval from both students and parents, who praised the smooth organization and described the experience as “exceptional and exciting.”
The Education Development Fund emphasized that this trial is a precursor to broader integration of robotic systems across future educational projects, aligning with Egypt’s national vision for digital transformation and technology-driven learning.
