Egypt’s Minister of Communications , Dr. Amr Talaat, participated in the ministerial coordination meeting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) and other interested countries in Paris. The meeting, held at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, took place alongside the AI Summit in the French capital.
Focus on Global AI Governance and Collaboration
The meeting centered around GPAI’s approach to AI governance, aiming to explore future collaboration opportunities with countries from various regions. Officials from Serbia, Chile, Kazakhstan, and the OECD participated in the discussions. Dr. Talaat emphasized Egypt’s commitment to ethical and responsible AI use and shared updates on Egypt’s second National AI Strategy, launched in January.
Pillars of Egypt’s National AI Strategy
Dr. Talaat detailed the six key pillars of the strategy: governance, data management, infrastructure, innovation ecosystem, technology, and AI skills development. These pillars ensure Egypt remains at the forefront of AI governance while addressing issues such as algorithmic bias, transparency, and privacy protection. Egypt plans to expand smart cloud services, supercomputing applications, and digital transformation projects to build a robust technological infrastructure.
Strengthening Regional AI Cooperation
Dr. Talaat also discussed Egypt’s role in advancing AI governance in the Arab and African regions. He noted Egypt’s leadership as the first African country to adopt the OECD AI Principles and its ongoing involvement in the OECD’s AI Working Group. The Minister highlighted the country’s focus on enhancing regional collaboration through the Arab League and African Union.

Dr. Talaat emphasized the importance of addressing AI’s impact on the labor market. Egypt is implementing training programs to provide the workforce with essential digital skills for the AI-driven economy.

During his address, Dr. Talaat underscored the importance of strengthening cybersecurity for AI systems, particularly protecting privacy and preventing data breaches.
