Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ayman Ashour, referred to the significance of manufacturing Egypt’s first electric vehicle during a meeting with the project team. The team provided a comprehensive explanation of the car’s manufacturing process and technical specifications. Minister Ashour encouraged the team to expedite the project’s progress to ensure its completion within this year.
EV manufacturing project is implemented as a collaboration between local car manufacturer EgyptSat Auto and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASMT), with investments totaling EGP 300 million ($9.7 million). Egypt’s Cabinet granted the company a golden license in September 2023 to establish a factory in the 10th of Ramadan City dedicated to electric vehicle production.
Mohamed Al Ghamry, Vice President of AASTMT and CEO of EgyptSat Auto, announced in August that the car would be available in the local market during the first quarter of 2024. The prototype was initially unveiled to Prime Minister Madbouly in February 2023.
Previously, Nasr Automotive had intended to manufacture the Nasr E70 in partnership with China’s Dongfeng Motor Co. However, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the collaboration was not renewed.
