Egyptian Women Researchers Empowered Through Intellectual Property Training

News Agencies

The National Intellectual Property Academy of Egypt (NIPA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy joined forces to equip women researchers with the knowledge and tools to protect and leverage their intellectual property (IP).

Upskilling for Innovation

This collaborative project, concluded in April 2024, offered a comprehensive training program to 75 women researchers across various disciplines in Egypt.

The program comprised an online training phase followed by in-person mentoring sessions. WIPO-certified trainers from NIPA, a WIPO intellectual property training institution (IPTI), led both phases.

The curriculum covered the fundamentals of intellectual property, including Egyptian academic institution IP policies and effective IP management strategies for commercialization and monetization. Real-world case studies from Egypt provided practical context for the participants.

Mentorship for Success

The dedicated mentorship phase offered one-on-one guidance from NIPA trainers and business experts. Participants received tailored advice on structuring business models and IP strategies for their ongoing research projects.

The program equipped the participating researchers with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the world of intellectual property.  Following the program, several researchers have initiated the process of filing for IP protection and commercializing their inventions, leveraging the step-by-step guidance provided during the mentorship sessions.

Building a Diverse Innovation Ecosystem

This initiative is part of WIPO’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive and gender-diverse innovation ecosystems worldwide. Through collaboration with established IPTIs like NIPA, the WIPO Academy tailors training programs to address specific local needs and empower researchers on the ground.
