The Egyptian show “Les Misérables بالعربي” by the Gracie Ensemble, based on Victor Hugo’s “Les Misérables”, adapted and directed by Mahmoud Hassan Haggag, participates in the second and third tracks competition in the 14th session of the Arab Theater Festival in Baghdad from January 10 to 18, 2024, in cooperation with the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities is represented by the Department of Theater and Cinema, and the Iraqi Artists Syndicate.
The Arab Theater Authority announced the qualification of 20 shows in the three tracks that the authority specified in its announced list earlier this year.
The opening ceremony, which premieres on January 10, will witness many events, including the presentation by 86 Iraqi artists of an artwork entitled (Maqamat Al Hom W Al Salam).
The first track includes 13 shows competing for the Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award, which are: “Ecstasia” and “Teknaza Qissat Tuda” from Morocco, “The Executioner” and “Zaghanbot” from the Emirates, “Beit Abu Abdullah,” “Happy Life,” and “The Executioner.” “Safsaf” from Iraq, “Revolution” from Algeria, “I Dreamed About You Yesterday” and “Tomorrow and There” from Tunisia, “Sidrat Al-Sheikh” from Oman, “Silence” from Kuwait, and “Frimology” from Jordan.
As for the second and third tracks, they include 7 theatrical performances: “Les Misérables” from Egypt, “Antigone” from Jordan, “Hymn of Waiting” and “Madness of Doves” from Iraq, “Kalam” from Morocco, “Ice Dream” from Sudan, and “Gaza Metro.” ” from Palestine.
Moreover, Lebanese Nidal Al-Ashqar will also deliver the Arab Theater Day message during the opening ceremony, in addition to honoring 23 Iraqi theatrical figures and innovators and a special symposium entitled “Theater and Cultural Resistance in Palestine.
