Egyptian Sprinter Basant Hemida Shatters National Record, Secures Gold at Botswana Grand Prix

Basant Hemida, a prominent athlete representing the Egyptian national athletics team, has achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the gold medal in the 400-meter sprint at the Botswana Athletics Grand Prix Gold event. In a display of exceptional performance, Hemida not only secured victory but also shattered her own national record, surpassing it by a significant 1.5 seconds, with a time of 50.77 seconds.

Record-Breaking Performance:

Hemida’s winning time of 50.77 seconds eclipsed her previous Egyptian record of 52.84 seconds, which was set at the 2021 Egyptian Athletics Championship in Cairo.

Her performance narrowly missed the World Athletics Championship qualifying standard of 50.75 seconds by a mere 0.02 seconds, demonstrating her proximity to global elite levels.

Hemida’s athletic prowess is further underscored by her gold medal victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the Mediterranean Games.
