The Egyptian presidency issued a statement asserting that Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has left for Aqaba to participate in a tripartite Egyptian-Jordanian-Palestinian summit on Israel’s military escalation in the Gaza Strip.
According to Ahmed Fahmy, the Egyptian presidency’s spokesman, the three leaders will discuss efforts to halt the escalation and ways to address the humanitarian catastrophe endured by the Palestinian people.
Fahmy further emphasized that President El-Sisi will review Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid delivery, and present the country’s vision for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
El-Sisi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo on Monday, where they discussed ways to end Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
The president also met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Cairo two weeks ago, where both of them discussed the humanitarian situation in the besieged strip.
The summit coincides with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s Middle East tour to rally regional leaders in support of post-war Gaza. Blinken met with Abbas earlier today in Ramallah. On Thursday, he will conclude his tour in Cairo.
Yesterday, the Israeli war and blockade of Gaza reached its 96th day. So far, over 23,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 58,000 injured. The majority of the strip’s 2.4 million people are facing near-famine conditions.
