The gritty Egyptian thriller “Rat Hole” will hold its international premiere at the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF), held from August 15 to 22, after an extremely successful world premiere at the Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWF) last March.
The film plot follows a female telemarketer for a non-profit organization who seeks to persuade people to donate money to her cause in a novel interpretation of a tale that has never been discussed in the zeitgeist of the Arab world.
However, she is compelled to go against her moral code and behave in a way that exposes the shady side of the NGO to which she is engaged in her desperate attempts to make ends meet.
Rat Hole, a film that shines a light on the struggles of an underpaid female telemarketer attempting to make ends meet while dealing with numerous moral choices, stars emerging actress Rana Khattab, whose outstanding performance as the lead dazzled the AIWF viewers.
The cast also includes Mohamed Yorka (manager), Kamal El-Asnawy, and Hanan Helmy, among others.
The long-awaited red-carpet premiere will take place on August 16 at 8 p.m. at Taj Cinema 4, in the presence of the film’s director, writer, and producer Mohamed El-Samman, who won Best Script at the 2022 Sawiris Cultural Awards. Other notable Jordanian public figures, press, and celebrities will also be in attendance. It will also screen again on August 20, at 10 p.m. at Taj Cinema 3.
Moreover, El-Samman will also conduct an exclusive Q&A session with the audience after the film’s debut, during which he will reveal some behind-the-scenes tales, difficulties he encountered while filming, the complexity of the social issue the movie seeks to address, and other information.
