Egypt Women’s Rugby Sevens Team to Compete in Africa Championship in Nairobi

The Egyptian Rugby Federation has announced that Egypt’s Women’s Rugby Sevens National Team will compete in the upcoming Africa Rugby Sevens Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, joining 12 elite teams from across the continent.

This marks a historic milestone for women’s rugby in Egypt, as the national team secured qualification despite being newly established. In just a short time since the formation of the first women’s team, the players have achieved an exceptional breakthrough—earning a place among Africa’s top 12 women’s rugby sevens teams and proving their ability to compete at a continental level.

A Major Step for Women’s Sports in Egypt

The championship will feature national teams from:
South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritius, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Egypt.

The Egyptian Rugby Federation emphasized that this participation reflects its commitment to supporting women’s sports and strengthening Egypt’s presence in international competitions. The federation also extended its appreciation to the players and the coaching and administrative staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the preparation phase.

The national team aims to deliver a strong performance that showcases their fighting spirit, rapid development, and growing potential—further elevating Egypt’s standing on the African rugby stage.
