Egypt’s government will begin a trial operation of 1,000 hotel rooms as part of the ambitious “Greatest Revelation” project in the city of Saint Catherine, South Sinai, between April and May 2025, according to informed sources. This marks a significant milestone for one of the country’s largest tourism infrastructure initiatives.
During a recent meeting on January 1, 2025, Housing Minister Sherif El-Sharbiny directed an acceleration of the project’s development, emphasizing adherence to the planned timelines. He highlighted the need for increased labor and equipment, alongside enhanced coordination among all involved parties, to overcome delays caused by workforce shortages, equipment constraints, and adverse weather conditions.
The project, which began in 2021, has already completed the construction of 500 hotel rooms as part of a mountain resort nestled within the Saint Catherine Mountain range. The hotel complex spans an area of 12,900 square meters.
Sources reveal that an additional 500 hotel units, including apartments and villas, are currently under construction, with completion expected later this month. The hospitality operations will be managed by global hotel chains Steigenberger and Marriott.
With an investment of over EGP 15 billion, the cost of the project has surpassed initial estimates. This investment also encompasses a world-class conference center built within the mountain, an eco-friendly underground visitor center, and a specialized herbal treatment hospital, which is operated in collaboration with local residents from the Saint Catherine Monastery area.
The “Greatest Revelation” project represents a monumental push to boost Egypt’s tourism sector and transform the region into a global destination, attracting both leisure and business travelers. The project’s completion will further cement the country’s position as a key player in the Middle Eastern tourism industry.
