Egypt will welcome top young golfers from across the Arab world as it hosts the 24th edition of the Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship from May 7-10, 2025. The prestigious tournament, organized by the Egyptian Golf Federation (EGF), will take place at two of Cairo’s renowned golf courses: Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club.
This year’s event promises to be a milestone in the Arab golfing community, with the championship featuring five distinct age categories for boys and girls, as well as a ladies’ category. Some categories will be held for the 24th, 16th, fifth, fourth, and second times, underscoring the long-standing tradition and growing importance of the competition in the region.
The tournament is being sponsored by the Arab Golf Federation and is expected to attract participants from the federation’s member states, which include Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Omar Hisham Talaat, President of the Egyptian Golf Federation, expressed great enthusiasm for hosting the event. “It is a great honour for us to organise the Arab Junior and Ladies Championship in a joint event between Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club,” said Talaat. “This tournament marks the first major regional championship in the new board’s term, and it sets the stage for a new chapter in Egypt’s golf development.”
Talaat emphasized that this year’s tournament will not only feature top-level competition but will also aim to engage the local community in an exciting and accessible way. “For the first time, the public will be invited to attend the championship events, with a special focus on residents of Madinaty. We are organizing a ‘Golf Festival’ at Madinaty Golf Club alongside the tournament,” he explained. This festival will offer recreational golf activities, musical performances, and other entertainment, designed to introduce people of all ages to the sport in a fun and inviting atmosphere.
The goal, Talaat added, is to promote the culture of golf across Egypt and the wider Arab world. “We want to encourage more individuals to practice the game, at all levels, and build a sustainable future for the sport in the region,” he said.
With golf rapidly growing in popularity across the Arab world, the championship’s role in fostering talent and supporting grassroots development has never been more crucial. The Egyptian Golf Federation’s commitment to the sport’s advancement is clear, with Talaat noting that the federation plans to elevate Egypt’s role as a hub for golf in North Africa and the Arab region.
The event is also expected to strengthen Egypt’s position as a key destination for sports tourism, particularly in the growing field of golf tourism, which continues to gain traction worldwide. By hosting this prestigious championship in Cairo, the Egyptian Golf Federation is aiming to raise the profile of Egypt’s golf courses and showcase the country’s potential as a premier golfing destination.
The Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship serves as a vital stepping stone for young golfers, providing them with invaluable experience and an opportunity to compete at a regional level. With top golfers from across the Arab world coming together, the tournament is not only a celebration of sporting talent but also an essential part of the broader effort to develop and promote golf in the region.
The tournament is expected to be a showcase of both competitive excellence and community spirit, reinforcing Egypt’s growing role as a leader in Arab and international golf.
