Egypt will be the host of the annual meetings of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in 2027. This announcement comes after approval by the EBRD’s Board of Governors, further solidifying the country’s reputation as a premier destination for international events.
Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation and Governor at the EBRD-Rania Al-Mashat- highlighted the strong partnership between Egypt and the EBRD. Since 2012, their collaboration has yielded a cooperation portfolio exceeding €12 billion. This substantial support has significantly bolstered the Egyptian economy, particularly the private sector, with over 80% of the funds directed towards local and foreign private enterprises across various sectors.
Egypt’s proven track record in hosting high-profile international events played a key role in securing the 2027 EBRD meetings. The country has successfully hosted the Egypt International Cooperation Forum, numerous African Development Bank (AfDB) annual meetings, and the prestigious COP27 climate change conference. Additionally, Egypt is slated to host the Arab annual meetings for financial institutions and bodies in May 2024.
Strategically located as a gateway to the Middle East and Africa, Egypt’s selection aligns perfectly with the EBRD’s strategy for expansion in these regions. The recent inclusion of new members like Iraq and Benin further underscores Egypt’s commitment to regional cooperation, particularly “South-South” collaboration with African nations.
Leveraging its extensive experience in hosting international events, Egypt vows to meticulously organize the 2027 EBRD meetings. These gatherings will catalyze Egypt’s efforts in international cooperation and development financing, while strengthening ties with the EBRD and fostering broader collaboration across Africa.
