Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said it is unfortunate and disgraceful that Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich continues to make irresponsible and inflammatory statements about Egypt.
An article by Egypt Independent asserted that the Israeli minister claimed that Hamas’ ammunition supplies primarily pass through Egypt and that Cairo bears significant responsibility for what occurred on October 7.
The Hebrew newspaper “Haaretz” reported last Monday that Smotrich blamed Egypt for what happened on October 7.
According to Azu Zaid, these statements only demonstrate Israel’s desire for destruction and undermine any efforts to contain the Gaza Strip crisis.
He condemned these statements as completely unacceptable, emphasizing that Egypt has complete control over its territory and will not allow any party to use Egypt’s name in any failed attempt to justify its shortcomings.
In December, the minister accused Egypt of allowing massive amounts of ammunition into Gaza.
The Israeli minister also demanded that Egypt allow Gaza residents to cross its border and immigrate to other countries.
