Egypt ranked 35th globally in terms of spending on R&D
Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Ayman Ashour said on Tuesday 27/12/2022 that Egypt came in 35th place in terms of public spending on research and development (R&D) among 86 countries worldwide.
According to a report by TheGlobalEconomy.com, Egypt ranked second among the Arab countries following the UAE and first in Africa in terms of spending on research and development. The report said that Egypt’s spending on R&D reached 0.96% of its GDP.
Egypt’s spending on R&D recorded EGP 59 billion in 2021, with an increase of EGP 3 billion compared to 2020, the report revealed.
Within the Arab context Egypt was followed by Saudi Arabia which came third, then Oman which ranked fourth and Kuwait that took the fifth position.
