Today, Egypt is celebrating World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, established by the UN General Assembly in 2013. This year’s focus is on protecting children from human trafficking under the theme “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking.”

The Foreign, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Ministry released a statement emphasizing Egypt’s proactive commitment to combating human trafficking, considering it a top priority. The statement highlighted Egypt’s efforts, including the issuance of law no. 64 of 2010 to combat human trafficking and the establishment of a special committee to address this issue.

Egypt’s National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons (NCCPIM & TIP) is the first in the Middle East. The committee has launched national awareness campaigns, such as “Together against Human Trafficking,” in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration.

These campaigns aim to raise public awareness about the dangers of human trafficking, encourage reporting, and explain the relevant penalties outlined in the law.
