Egypt Marks Int’l Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with High-Level Celebration

Counselor Amal Ammar, Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW), participated in a prominent ceremony organized by the Ministry of Awqaf in collaboration with the NCW at Masjid Misr Al-Kabir. The event commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, highlighting Egypt’s commitment to protecting women’s rights and combating all forms of violence.

The celebration brought together a wide range of experts and specialists, emphasizing the state’s dedication to safeguarding women and promoting an enlightened religious discourse as part of the Ministry of Awqaf’s ongoing social awareness initiatives.

A key feature of the event was the screening of an awareness film addressing cyber extortion, its psychological and social impacts, and real-life case studies illustrating societal violence and the successful reintegration of victims into the community.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf; Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports; Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development; Ambassador Nabila Makram, Head of the National Secretariat of the National Coalition for Civil Work; Dr. Mohamed Abdel Dayem El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy; and Professor Nazir Eyad, Grand Mufti of Egypt, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Awqaf and the NCW.

Under the leadership of Amal Ammar, the NCW continues to play a pivotal role in advancing gender equality, raising awareness on women’s rights, and fostering collaboration across governmental and civil society institutions to combat violence against women in Egypt.
