At a high-level ceremony marking a decade since the launch of Egypt’s “Takaful and Karama” social protection program, Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsy, announced the country’s next bold step: the establishment of a global platform for social protection, in collaboration with the World Bank. The initiative, to be hosted annually in Egypt, aims to spotlight international best practices, celebrate national achievements, and serve as a global hub for advancing inclusive social safety networks.
The event, held under the theme “Social Protection: Lessons from the Past, Steps Toward the Future”, reflected on the transformative impact of the program, which since its inception in 2015 has reached over 7.7 million families across the country. With 4.7 million families currently receiving support, Morsy highlighted how the initiative has evolved into a cornerstone of Egypt’s broader development strategy — integrating cash assistance with healthcare, education, financial inclusion, and economic empowerment.
