Egypt Intends to Sue Israel for Genocide for its Role in the killings of Gazans

Regarding Israel’s devastating attack on the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian organization Hamas has applauded Egypt’s move to join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).Due to “the systematic targeting of civilians and destruction of infrastructure in the strip, as well as the escalating severity and scope of Israeli assaults against Palestinian civilians in Gaza,” Cairo said early on Sunday that it will join the ICJ’s genocide case against Israel.

Hamas applauded Egypt for denouncing the Israeli “crimes” in Gaza in a statement, and it urged all Arab and Islamic nations “to take similar steps in support of the Palestinian cause by joining the lawsuit” against Israel.

A call was also made for all nations “to break off ties with the (Israeli) occupation, isolate it globally, and work toward holding its leaders accountable for their systematic crimes against children and civilians in the Gaza Strip.”

South Africa launched a lawsuit against Israel in late December, charging the Middle Eastern nation with genocide during its conflict with Hamas in Gaza, which is supported by Iran.

The World Court ordered Israel to stop the atrocities in Gaza in late January, but as the number of deaths increased and the situation worsened in the Palestinian enclave, the African country asked the World Court in March for more emergency measures to be added to its order, which was granted.

Health officials in Gaza state that since then, the death toll in the territory has topped 35,000, with many of the victims being women and children.

As the war has progressed and the number of deaths in Gaza has increased, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to destroy Hamas in retaliation for the attack. However, he has run the risk of losing support from other countries, including the United States, which has urged Netanyahu to scale back Israeli Defense Forces attacks on the Gaza Strip in light of civilian casualties.
